Mini-Champions

La Faucille International Ski School Mini-Champions are very young learners or beginners. They are divided into groups according to their age and their ski expertise. They start skiing on the learning ground in front of the chalet, until they can join a group on the runs. Children's reception is done at the chalet. Lesson's prices can be found here.

All Mini -Champions must have in their jacket's external pocket, a tag with their first name, last name, ski level and coordinates of their parents and/or persons to contact in case of accident (see parent notice).

For the youngest (3-5 years old)

Group

In order to succeed, each child has to feel happy in his/her group and be part of it. Therefore, children must be ready to leave their parents. Parents have to explain to their children what the lesson consists of and try to make them confident just as if they were going to school.

Lesson

The lesson includes: the reception, the warming-up, the ski session, the break with a snack and the return to the parents. Teaching is adapted to the children's age and level.

Equipment

No ski poles needed ! Learning skiing starts with a balancing exercise. Children must put their weight on their legs, thus poles are not necessary at this point. Regular skis are necessary because of their safety bindings.

Snack break

Each child brings in a bag with a drink and a snack. Insert in the bag the same tag you have already inserted in the jacket's pocket (see parent notice).

The break is a very important time when child gets to know the instructor in a warm, secure and comfortable place. Child's integration is easier at this moment.

It is also a time period which enables children to communicate with their instructor, thus to get rid of tensions or worries that appeared at the beginning of the lesson.

Sharing their snacks will also help communication among children.

Children are usually making progress after the break. So it is better to leave the child for the whole lesson.

Lesson's end

When parents come to pickup their children, they have to wait for the teachers to be ready. Instructors have to look after all the children and make sure that the children are given back to their parents.

The instructor gives feedback to the parents about the level, the progresses of the child and the lesson itself.

After giving back the number, kids should not forget to say “goodbye” and “thank you”, which are part of an instructor’s reward.

A few rules

After years of experience, we established some rules to provide a better teaching:

  • We ask parents to prepare their children to work with an instructor. If the child is already going to school or kindergarten, it is good to tell him he is going to be with a teacher just as if he was going to school.
  • Parents do not stay for the lesson; they pick their child at the end of the lesson.
  • We recommend to the parents not to stay in the reception area and leave their child to get into the group.
  • We would ask the parents not to interrupt the lesson if it is not necessary.
  • Do not call a child as he might be disorientated and confused not knowing whom to look at or listen to. Look at him from afar.
  • If you are late, please contact the first available instructor.
  • Do not cross the learning ground or do not leave the child join his group alone.
  • Do not call your child before the end of the lesson; wait till the instructor brings the group back to the reception area. He will tell you what your child did during the lesson: his progress and his level.

You are late?

If you arrive in the middle of a lesson, please wait for an instructor in the reception area. Do not cross the learning ground or leave your child join his group alone.

If your child’s group is in the chalet for the snack break, tell your child to go and see the instructor and mates in order to meet them. It is necessary to leave him at once to help his integration to the group.

The learning ground

  • The learning ground is especially designed for the different levels of the children. It is groomed every day. There are four ski lifts.
  • The children train on the learning ground until they are able to ski on the runs. They will be allowed to change groups and be part of the Maxi-Champions.
  • Before skiing on the runs, the Maxi-Champions will warm-up on a specially designed part of the learning ground.

Tests

There are two tests for Mini-Champions: the Snowman and the Green Mouse.
